Outer Banks North

One mile north of Corolla, on North Carolina's famed Outer Banks, having hugged the Atlantic Ocean from all the way below Hatteras sixty miles to the south, the paved road abruptly ends...

So begins one of the best kept secrets on America's east coast; for the Outer Banks are not done yet. Another eleven miles of wild and beautiful coast stretches up to Virginia's southernmost shore. Known locally as the "4-wheel drive area" for the SUV's typically needed to access its treasures, this very northern section of the Outer Banks is still sparsely inhabited.

Drive north roughly four miles up the beach (4WD required) to the area known as Swan Beach, look 500 feet off to your left, and there, nestled back behind the twenty foot beach dune, you'll find a yellow beach house named Tranquility.

This web site is meant to introduce Tranquility and its amenities, to provide an information portal for those Tranquility visitors who've come back each year, and to give rental agency and owner contact information.

Built in 1997, Tranquility is clean, modern, and meticulously kept. While the house certainly has a lot to offer, all else just pales in comparison to the main thing: where it is.

Tranquility's expansive and unobstructed semi-oceanfront view is breathtaking - whether you're inside or relaxing on the upper deck.

In addition to the Atlantic, the Currituck Sound, visible from the back of the house, is also beautiful, especially at sunset.

The beach, just a short walk up Sandpiper Road (which is basically just a soft sand path), is very wide and flat, offering great swimming, relaxing, and surf fishing.
